Played football at Courtland High School 1980-1984 where the cougars won state championships in 82' and 83' under Virginia Hall of Fame coach, Ken Brown. During my years at Courtland the desire to win was fueled by the success of our teams and the lessons learned then and there remain with me to this day. I was able to continue playing football at the next level while attending Hampden-Sydney College. I began coaching as an assistant coach in 2002 for Spostyvania Parks and Rec and later became a head coach within the league at the Pee Wee and Junior divisions from 2005 through 2008. During those years our teams earned a 28-4 win/loss record. I believe firmly in the KISS method, which simple means to keep things as simple as possible so that the kids can perform quickly and aggressively without a paralysis of analysis. I believe in a strong work ethic and a comittment to playing for the benefit of the team. I began coaching to spend more time with my sons and the benefits have been more than I could have dreamed. I have had the privelege of working friends and some terrific kids. I can hardly wait to get started with this season.
I have been coaching and playing football for over 30 years, starting at the age of 10 in my hometown of Cookeville, TN. I played QB at Cookeville High School in the mid-80's, Go Cavs!, where I was named 1st Team All State twice! Being from such a football hotbed, I had to learn to work hard and never quit, and that is what I try to impress in my players. I have coached for over 21 years at many levels including being the 1st head coach and one of the founding members of the DC Generals Police & Fire team in the National Public Saftey League, and a player and coach in the Marine Corps. I am a member of the National Youth Sports Coaches' Association, the National Federation of High School Coaches, & the USA Football Coaches Association. Though I have coached at all of the levels, I have never enjoyed coaching as much as I have with my youth teams over the past 7 seasons! I have always taught my players to play the game with Class & Dignity, just like I was taught. I feel like there is no other way to play the game!
